Membership
The California Society of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation is a non-profit corporation. All of the income, revenue, and earnings from and/or principal and corpus of the assets of the Society, unless otherwise limited, shall be held, used, managed, devoted, expended and applied in the expression and judgment of the Board of Directors to carry out the objectives and purposes of the Society and without profit, directly or indirectly, to any member of the Society.
The purposes and objectives of this Society are:
- To unify all qualified Physiatrists in California into a representative organization;
- To promote the science and art of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation;
- To secure the highest standards of practice of the specialty;
- To seek the betterment of the individual member of this Society, and to protect the member’s interests within the structure of the Constitution and Bylaws of this corporation;
- To study the scientific, socioeconomic and political aspects of medicine impacting the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; and
- To cooperate with organizations of similar purposes and to complement and supplement the aims and activities of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; and
- To enable physiatrists to practice the highest quality of patient care throughout their professional careers by providing recurring opportunities for high quality continuing medical education.
Membership in this Society is a privilege and not a right and is contingent upon compliance with the requirements specified in the Bylaws. No person shall be accepted or continued as a member of this Society unless that person is of good moral character and adheres to the traditionally high ethical standards of the medical profession and is practicing in accordance with the principles of this Society. Membership is open to all eligible individuals regardless of age, race, creed, national origin, sex or disability. The Society is composed of six classes of practicing physician members with the qualifications, rights and duties as stated in the Bylaws.
